Artificial Intelligence implications on the Singapore workforce
Artificial Intelligence comprises a set of technologies which are expected to have a deeply disruptive impact on work practices, required skills and leadership. Amazon recently announced that it plans to retrain approximately a third of its 300,000 person workforce in the US to do more high-tech tasks, an acknowledgement that advances in technology are remaking jobs in nearly every industry.
European companies are undertaking various initiatives to leverage AI in improving their processes, enhancing customer experience and developing new business models. These all have substantial impact on their workforce’s and involve many challenges. The government of Singapore is deeply aware of the major impact of AI on current and future employment, and has undertaken a number of initiatives to address the challenge.
Join us for our morning session to hear (AISG speaker) and (SAP speakers) share their point of view on the challenges of AI on the workforce, and their experience of practical initiatives in this domain. Their presentations will be followed by a moderated panel discussion including representative of other European multinationals in Singapore.

Director, AI Industry Innovation
AI Singapore (AISG)
Laurence is the Director for AI Industry Innovation at AI Singapore and is driving the adoption of AI by the Singapore ecosystem through the 100 Experiments and AI Apprenticeship programmes.
A visionary and serial technopreneur, Laurence identified and introduced Singapore’s enterprises to:
- Linux and open source in 1999, by being the first RED HAT partner and authorized training centre in Asia Pacific
- High Performance Computing (HPC) Cluster in 2001, by building A- STAR’s IHPC first compute cluster (most of the initial HPC clusters in NUS, NTU, SMU were built by Laurence and his team)
- Grid Computing in 2003, by building and operating Singapore’s first Grid platform – IDA’s National Grid Pilot Platform
- Cloud Computing in 2007, by architecting both the Cloud business and technology for then Singapore Computer Systems’ Alatum Cloud (now owned by Singtel)
- Open Source Analytics in 2011, by building Revolution Analytics Inc business in Asia and R&D team in Singapore. Revolution Analytics was acquired by Microsoft in 2015
Vice-President, Digital Transformation Office, South East Asia
Global Customer Operations (GCO)
Rudy Abrahams is the Vice-President of Digital Transformation Office and is a member of the Senior Executive Team of SAP Southeast Asia. His leadership extends to creating and managing end-to-end customer journeys with industry expertise, innovation and digital transformation for over 10,000 customers across South East Asia (SEA), while scaling and accelerating SAP’s long-term business strategy. Rudy has more than 20 years of ICT experience in the public and private sector, with expertise in large scale digital transformation to unlock the value of technology.
Rudy has held several leadership roles across geographies and organizations, most notably he has been an SAP Industry Principal and Leader for close to a decade where he led the City of Cape Town’s SAP-COE in South Africa. Prior to joining SAP SEA as Head of Presales in 2018, Rudy held the role of Head of Presales & Customer Advisory, in SAP EMEA-South based in SAP Dubai office, where he led the Presales Team in various countries, such as Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, Kuwait and the Levant.
Prior to joining SAP, Rudy worked at the City of Cape Town in South Africa, where he has been the Manager for the City’s SAP Enterprise Support Centre since 2010. In this capacity, he was responsible for leading the largest SAP ERP Centre of Excellence (SAP COE) implementation for local government, with over 160 certified SAP Consultants. The City’s Emergency Policing and Incident Control system that showcased SAP HANA alongside the SAP-powered successful city administration has been recognized across the globe for maximizing public ROI.
He resides in Singapore.
HR Strategy Advisor, SAP SuccessFactors Asia
Sujay Bhat is a HR Strategy Advisor at SAP SuccessFactors and has over 18+ years in the Human Resources space. His geographic span of coverage includes APJ.
In his role Sujay works with organizations to help them define their Human Resources Technology Transformation roadmap and craft out the integral role of SAP’s Cloud HR Technology to support in executing people practices and driving transformation to achieve business results. This involves working with organizations from design to project execution stage.
In his earlier role at SAP, Sujay used to lead Client Engagement for SAP SuccessFactors in the mid market client segment across South East Asia.
Prior to joining SAP, Sujay used to head Client Engagement for Aon Hewitt’s HR Optimization & Outsourcing Business across South East Asia. In total Sujay has spent around 15 years with Aon Hewitt in the markets of India, China and South East Asia in various leadership capacities. His primary focus, in various roles, has been around building the case for HR Transformation with leadership teams to drive closer alignment to business needs and outcomes.
Sujay has a Masters Degree in Business Economics and a Masters Degree in Business Administration.
He is presently based in Singapore.

Senior Principal Consultant
Digital Service – CoE Singapore
Dr. Saerbeck leads strategic research and development initiatives of TÜV SÜD Asia Pacific Digital Service. In his role as Senior Principal Consultant, Dr. Saerbeck oversees the technology roadmap for AI and Sensor Network innovation projects, including novel continuous testing services, targeting the demands of a connected smart industry. He has a long track record in academia and industry in the domains of cognitive robotics, system verification and AI.
After completing his PhD with Philips Research, Dr. Saerbeck started an interdisciplinary research team on human-machine interaction within the Institute of High Performance Computing A*STAR. He is an awardee of the prestigious A*STAR Independent Investigatorship given by Agency for Science, Technology and Research, Singapore. For 7 years, Dr. Saerbeck led the Intuitive Interaction Technology group, which developed novel technologies for seamless human-machine interaction for education, manufacturing and retail.
Dr. Saerbeck has a passion for applied research, promoting translation of academic results in formal verification and artificial intelligence to make today’s connected smart systems safe, secure, and reliable.

Director of Faculty and Design
Centre for Creative Leadership (CCL) APAC Pte Ltd
Paul is currently serving as Regional Leadership Solutions Director for CCL APAC. He leads the team of internal and associate faculty and coaches in the design, development and execution of products and services across all of CCL’s business lines in the APAC region .
He is also a Lead Faculty for a number of key CCL client MNC’s both regionally and globally, principally in the industrial and FMCG sectors. He also supports clients as a coach for executives and senior leadership teams. He works principally with organisations building capability in strategic leadership, innovation, change, and digital transformation.
Paul joined CCL in 2006 as faculty and previously served in leadership roles in the CCL’s EMEA region first as Organizational Practice Leader, then as Director of Leadership Portfolio.
Paul has 30 years’ experience of shaping and leading consulting assignments at senior levels, with a special focus on business strategy, transformation and organizational change for large MNC’s.
Prior to joining CCL, Paul founded his own boutique consulting group, after being a director at PricewaterhouseCoopers based in London, designing and implementing strategic change projects across Europe. Previously, he held management positions in a number of multinationals in the professional services sector in Europe and the US.
Paul is of French and Italian extraction, educated in the U.K. and U.S., and is based in Singapore. His academic background includes a BSc in Chemistry from Queen Mary University of London, an MBA from University of California at Los Angeles, and a post-graduate certificate in Organizational Psychology from Northcentral University. He is a Board Certified Coach and is also certified to use a number of psychometric instruments and assessment tools. He is also a master trainer in a number of simulations and other immersive learning approaches.
