Background: The EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) aims to level the playing field for carbon emissions in imported goods, thereby encouraging cleaner production globally. CBAM will be applied definitely in 2026, with a transition period from 2023 to 2026. Despite the upcoming implementation, there is a limited understanding of CBAM among private-sector companies operating in Indonesia and the region. Businesses have expressed a need for clear, practical information on CBAM, presented in interactive formats by a credible source. At the same time, the implementation of CBAM could spark new avenues for dialogues and potential collaboration in carbon policy, leading to the development of mutually beneficial sustainable trade practices. This timely event, co-organised by the EU Delegation in Indonesia and EuroCham, aims to address these concerns and provide essential information for Indonesian companies, relevant government entities, and civil society.

Objective: Equip businesses in Indonesia and the region with a clear and practical understanding of CBAM, its requirements, and preparation steps, ensuring continued smooth trade with the EU. The event also offers an opportunity to strengthen dialogue and explore collaboration in carbon policy, aligning Indonesian and EU efforts to reduce emissions, address carbon leakage, and achieve climate goals.

Target Audience: The event will mainly target the Indonesian business community, particularly but not limited to companies in CBAM-affected sectors. The event will also invite Indonesian government representatives, EU Member State Embassies, EuroCham and EU Member States Chambers of Commerce members, and regional EuroCham members (online)

The event will first feature a presentation by DG TAXUD, European Commission, providing a practical overview of CBAM, followed by an interactive Q&A session dedicated to addressing specific questions and concerns from businesses. This will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Indonesian businesses, the Indonesian government, EuroCham, and think tanks.
