POST EVENT

This morning, EuroCham engaged in a dialogue on sustainability within the aviation sector at a breakfast gathering centred around the “Optimisation of Operations,” hosted by Airbus, EuroCham’s knowledge partner at the Airbus office in Seletar.

Anand Stanley, President of APAC for Airbus and Board Member of EuroCham, inaugurated the discussion with valuable perspectives on sustainability. Anand emphasized that as we progress towards sustainability and technology, there has been an impressive 80% reduction in emissions per seat. Airbus is actively pursuing solutions to foster collaboration throughout the entire ecosystem, enhancing connectivity and bringing people together, all while prioritizing sustainability. Airbus’s primary focus is on discovering pragmatic and implementable solutions.

The advancements in sustainable air travel are evident, with planes now 25% more efficient. Through fuel optimization, improved flight path solutions, enhanced on-ground operations, the use of taxi bots, green electricity, AV technology, data analysis, and leveraging data for optimization and reporting, the industry is embracing cutting-edge technologies. Notable initiatives like Aeroshark from Lufthansa further contribute to the progress towards a more sustainable aviation future.

Key highlights also included the development of an eco-friendly Terminal 5 at Changi Airport, strategies to reduce engine usage during landing and taxiing using taxibots.

It was intriguing to discover how Airbus, Lufthansa, and Changi Airport are optimizing their operations to enhance efficiency and decrease emissions.

The event featured a distinguished panel of experts – Philipp Bonkatz, General Manager from Lufthansa Group, Jack Z. Zhang, Assistant Manager for Terminal 5 Specialised Systems from Changi Airport Group, Patrick Goh and Hélène Burger from Airbus.

Fabrice Espinosa, CEO of Studio28 ltd, skillfully moderated the discussion. Fabrice adeptly managed insightful questions and answers, fostering engaging and informative discussions among the panellists and attendees.

Special thanks to Thomas COCHELIN, EuroCham’s Chair of the Sustainable Air Travel Committee, from Airbus for organising this event and to all the attendees for making it a successful event!
