On the 22nd of June, the Financial Services Committee together with the Regional Trade Committee will be meeting with experts appointed by the EU Commission for a Joint-Session regarding the EUSFTA, European Union-Singapore Free Trade Agreement. This is the first FTA concluded between the EU and an ASEAN country.
The European Commission has already launched a process of legal analysis and review of the Agreement and the identification of all actions that Singapore must take to implement the EUSFTA. A team of consultants has been charged to draft a report to this effect and will also gather views and input from relevant stakeholders.
The goal of this joint session is to enable the European Commission to better track the implementation process with a view of ensuring that Singapore takes all the necessary steps needed to abide by its obligations.
