Synopsis

The European Chamber of Commerce (Singapore) is delighted to share that Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Education, will be the Guest of Honour at the EuroCham Education & Academic Committee Launch, joined by Her Excellency Iwona Piórko (Ambassador of the European Union to Singapore), and Mr Jens Rübbert, President of the European Chamber of Commerce (Singapore).

This initiative fosters collaboration among academia, businesses, and government stakeholders, emphasising our commitment to leveraging education as a catalyst for innovation and excellence. The committee maintains strong partnerships with various educational institutions, facilitating knowledge exchange, collaborative research, talent development, and networking opportunities.

Guest of Honour

Mr Chan Chun Sing
Minister for Education
Ministry of Education (Singapore)

Mr Chan Chun Sing was appointed Singapore’s Minister for Education on 15 May 2021. He is also Minister-in-charge of the Public Service since 1 May 2018.

Mr Chan drove Singapore’s economic and industrial development as Minister for Trade and Industry (MTI) from 1 May 2018 to 14 May 2021. At MTI, he ratified the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement, as well as deepened international cooperation on the digital economy. As Deputy Chairman of the People’s Association from 1 October 2015 to 14 May 2021, he oversaw national efforts to foster social cohesion.

From May 2015 to May 2018, he was Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and expanded the Labour Movement network to represent all working people in Singapore. Prior to NTUC, he served as Minister for Social and Family Development (2013-2015) and Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports (2011-12). He was also Second Minister for Defence (2013-15) and Minister of State for Information, Communications and the Arts (2011-12).

Serving with the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) from 1987 to 2011, Mr Chan held various appointments including Chief of Army. He left the SAF to run in the 2011 General Election and was elected Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency.

An SAF (Overseas) and President’s Scholarship holder, he graduated with First Class Honours in Economics from Christ’s College, Cambridge University, UK. He was also awarded the 1998 Distinguished Master Strategist Award by the US Army Command and General Staff College. In 2005, he completed the Sloan Fellows Programme at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship.

Born in 1969, Mr Chan is married with three children and enjoys reading and jogging.

Mr David Binan
Principal
International French School

Originally from Hauts-de-France, Mr David Binan holds a Master’s degree in History, specialising in History of the Middle Ages. He began his career in France as a teacher before leaving for Turkey as a linguistics attaché and then returned to teaching. After a career change at the French Embassy in Bulgaria, Mr Binan obtained his first position as Deputy Principal in France and then at the Lycée Français International G. Pompidou in Dubai before moving to Australia in 2012 as Principal of the Franco-Australian high school in Canberra. Mr Binan took up the role of Principal of IFS in January 2022 and, in April 2023, was conferred the title of Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French Government

 

Mr Paul Coignec
Head of Human Resources APAC
Airbus Asia-Pacific

Paul Coignec, our Co-Chair of the Human Development Committee, is Airbus Head of HR APAC and a member of the APAC leadership team. He graduated with a French-German Master’s Degree in Business Administration and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Ruhr Universitat Bochum.

Paul made his whole career in Airbus. Before being appointed as Head of HR APAC, he held the positions of Head of HRBP for HR & Workplace, Head of HR Site for Airbus Helicopters in Paris and Head of Social Relations for Airbus Helicopters in Marignane. Paul brings along more than 10 years of HR experience in a wide range of topics including but not limited to employment marketing, leadership development, resource management and social relations.

Paul’s motivation and passion to join Airbus stems from his support towards European project ambition, and is honored to contribute as a member of EuroCham Human Development Committee.

 

Prof. Sonja Prokopec
Professor of Marketing and the Associate Dean of Faculty
ESSEC Business School APAC

Prof. Sonja Prokopec is a professor of marketing and the Associate Dean of Faculty at ESSEC Business School in Singapore. Her research explores consumer judgment and decision-making. She is also interested in understanding the factors that affect brand perceptions of luxury brands. Prof. Prokopec’s research has been published in the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, and International Journal of Research in Marketing among others, as well as a variety of media including the Harvard Business Review, Huffington Post, the Business of Fashion and the Business Times Singapore.

She was the ESSEC LVMH Chair Professor of Luxury Brand Management for 12 years, from 2010 – 2022. She was named one of the Top 40 under 40 Business School Professors worldwide in 2015 (Poets&Quants ranking). Outside of teaching and research, she actively advises companies from the luxury and automotive industries as well as start-ups in regard to consumer behaviour trends, consumer research and marketing and brand management issues. She is also an advisory council member of the Singapore Fashion Council and VOGUE Council. Prof. Prokopec received her PhD in Marketing from the University of Houston in 2007.

Mr Jens Rübbert
President
European Chamber of Commerce, Singapore

Jens has been a senior banker for 33 years and has 20 years of experience in the Asian financial market. Currently, he is the Managing Director & Regional Head for Asia/Pacific of LBBW, one of Germany’s largest banks. Previously, Jens was with Deutsche Bank for 27 years in several senior positions across various regions including Germany, Turkey, Hong Kong, Singapore, China and Vietnam.

He has also held positions as Vice Chairman of EuroCham China (2011 – 2014), Chairman of GBA Vietnam, (2015 – 2017), Chairman of EuroCham Vietnam (2017), and President of the Singaporean-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (2020 – 2023). Jens is the current Chairman of the EU-ASEAN Business Council. He holds a degree in business administration and was awarded Germany’s Federal Order of Merit in 2021.

Step 4: Please arrive on time for registration for the event. We will only admit attendees who have made full payment to the event.
