The objective of the session is to provide an insight into what corporate ventures are, the most successful strategies to launching a corporate ventures initiative as well as the most often overlooked factors.

The discussion will take place in the form of a panel discussion between subject matter experts and look to answer such questions as:

1. Is corporate venturing right for you?
2. How can I test the waters and what do I need?
3. What external support is there in the market?
4. What are some best in class examples?

We are aiming for a discursive session and would expect the session to last circa 60 to 75 mins allowing time for guest intros and questions.

Meet the Speakers

Mr Joachim Vandaele, Founding Partner, FutureLabs Ventures

Joachim Vandaele has been building businesses for nearly 20 years in the financial services, family office, technology and new media space. He acts as an operating partner to founders and funders of growth businesses and has navigated companies out of dangerous waters into new geographies and unexplored fields of knowledge. He has executed on strategies for scale-ups, built leadership teams and managed fast growth and turnaround situations. Joachim is a Founding Partner of FutureLabs Ventures, a Venture Building and Capital firm which he co-founded with the core leadership of McKinsey Solutions. FutureLabs Ventures builds new technology companies and orchestrates Venture Ecosystems with and for large corporates.

He is a Lecturer at INSEAD, teaching the New Business Ventures course to the MBA class. Through Zephyr Ventures, he invests and assumes NED mandates with a number of scale-ups, incl. Trusted Family – a high profile growth business providing technology and advisory solutions for business owning families, and Found8 – Singapore’s largest Network of Innovation Studios. He also sits on the SteerCo and Selection Committee of the German Accelerator in Singapore, is Venture partner with B-Hive – a global fintech ecosystem. Joachim is trained as a finance and risk professional. He holds a M.Sc. in Financial & Investment Mgt. from Odissee University College Brussels; a Masters in Banking and Finance from Ghent University. He obtained an MBA from INSEAD.


Meet the Moderator

Mr Anjaney Borwankar, Managing Partner- Asia (Heywood & Sons), Co-founder (Navozyme), Co-Chairman of the Digital Economy Committee at EuroCham Singapore and IESE Business School Alumni Career Advisor

Anjaney Borwankar is a serial entrepreneur and a seasoned business executive with over two decades of management experience with prestigious global organizations such as McKinsey & Company, A.P.Moller (Maersk) and IESE Business School. He is a thought leader on Digital Transformation and Blockchain and a regular speaker at leading conferences worldwide. He currently leads Navozyme, a technology company dedicated to enhancing the lives in the maritime sector via proprietary blockchain enabled platforms.

Anjaney is also the Managing Partner-Asia at Heywood & Sons, a European pioneer in Corporate Venture building. Heywood & Sons’ entrepreneurial teams collaborate with Fortune 500 companies to turn technologies and opportunities into 100M+ Euro businesses.

Anjaney is a marathon runner, a certified permaculture designer and a regular volunteer to guide public meditation sessions. He is married and has two young sons and resides between Singapore and Barcelona.
