On the 21st of April 2015, the European Chamber of Commerce, Singapore (EuroCham) hosted its 6th Schuman Lecture, with Mr. Jean-Claude Trichet, former President of the European Central Bank, as our Guest of Honour. The event was also be graced by the presence of Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Drawing from his rich experience, Mr. Trichet addressed the audience with the following topic: “IMPROVING THE EURO AREA ECONOMIC GOVERNANCE

The Schuman Lecture Gala Dinner is one of the annual highlights of the European Chamber of Commerce, Singapore (EuroCham). It welcomed in the past distinguished speakers such as H.E. Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council, Mr Romano Prodi, Former President of the European Commission and Former Prime Minister of Italy, Mme Christine Lagarde, French Minister for Economy, Finance and Industry and G-20 Chair of Finance Ministers 2011, Lord Mandelson, former UK Secretary of State for Business, First Secretary of State and EU Trade Commissioner and Mr Pascal Lamy, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and former EU Trade Commissioner.

The Schuman Lecture series is supported by the Delegation of the European Union to Singapore and by the European national chambers of commerce and business associations present in Singapore.

Mr. Jean-Claude Trichet was President of the European Central Bank from 2003 to 2011. At the time of his election, he was President of the Banque de France. In 2012, Mr. Trichet was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bruegel Institute, a Think Tank dedicated to policy research on international economic issues. He is also Chairman of the Group of Thirty and a member of the Bilderberg Group and Institut de France.
