On the 17th of November 2014, the European Chamber of Commerce, Singapore (EuroCham) hosted its 5th Schuman Lecture, with H.E. Herman Van Rompuy as our Guest of Honour. President Van Rompuy shared his views on the role of Europe and its individual member countries and their relations with Singapore and the other ASEAN countries.

The Schuman Lecture Gala Dinner is one of the annual highlights of the European Chamber of Commerce, Singapore (EuroCham). It welcomed in the past distinguished speakers such as Mr Romano Prodi, Former President of the European Commission and Former Prime Minister of Italy, Mme Christine Lagarde, French Minister for Economy, Finance and Industry and G-20 Chair of Finance Ministers 2011, Lord Mandelson, former UK Secretary of State for Business, First Secretary of State and EU Trade Commissioner and Mr Pascal Lamy, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and former EU Trade Commissioner.

The Schuman Lecture series  is supported by the Delegation of the European Union to Singapore and by the European national chambers of commerce and business associations present in Singapore.

H.E. Herman Van Rompuy

Elected in 2009, H.E. Van Rompuy was unanimously re-elected in 2012 as the President of the European Council. At the time of his first election, he was Prime Minister of Belgium. A former economist at the National Bank of Belgium, H.E. Van Rompuy began his political career in 1973. In 2014, H.E. Van Rompuy was awarded the International Charlemagne Prize for his preeminent EU role.
